Welcome Week
Welcome Week was the week where my summer ended and school began. “Welcome Week” was filled with new and returning students. There was a DJ, a rock wall, and club/activity booths. No, there weren’t any raves or parties in people’s dorms. And this is what my first week of college looked like.
Day 1: I’m so lost
It was the first day of Welcome Week and my first day of class. I got to school early to walk around and “try” to interact with other people. I had my communications class at 12:30 in the afternoon. Walking into the classroom there were five row of seats, a white board, and in the front, a desk and computer for the teacher.
I sat in a seat in the third row, where I could still see the board. During class we went over the syllabus and were put in groups to answer some riddles as an icebreaker. My group consisted of two guys, two girls, and myself. It was fun and an easy way to get to know each other a little bit.
Day 2: How am I getting home?
I had English and then microeconomics which ended at 3:15 and I didn’t have a ride home. I was nervous and it took me over thirty minutes to find the bus stop. I was waiting for a specific bus to take and I waited for about 2 hours until a bus came. What I didn’t know what that this bus was going the opposite way in which I was trying to go. I did know where the bus was going towards after I got on and decided to get off at a place I was familiar with.
When I got off the bus I realized I missed the next bus that was suppose to take me back. Luckily, another bus driver offered to help me catch up with the right bus. He stopped me at the bus stop before the other bus arrived to it, giving me time to get on the correct bus. I eventually made it to my place at around 6 p.m. I later found out what bus I was suppose to take and I haven’t gotten lost since then.
Day 3: I hope my teacher is good
Student Development.
Why do we need it? To figure out how to succeed in college; tips, note taking, studying tips. Thats what this class is going to be about.
We went over the syllabus and watched a video. Not much happened in the class and I didn’t expect much. After my Student Development class I went to my communications class. The class went fine and no one talked to anyone.
Day 4: I have a friend?!
Thursday was my last school day and I had English and economics again. In English we worked in groups and that’s where I made a friend. After class we talked for a few minutes before her next class started. Because I still had time till my next class I walked around and signed up for a few clubs.
My first week of school was great. I eventually made friends, got to know the place better, and learned how to take the bus. I hope everyone else had or will have a great first week of summer.
